1962
1962 became the first year for McDowell Cross Country under coach Jim Nelson. The team was led by Runner of the Year Brian Downie and Ken Koscielneiak. Other top runners included Lynn Hall, Dale Albert, Bud Lewis and Dave Esser.
1963
In only their second year, the McDowell team won the district title, beating perennial power Strong Vincent. At the district meet Brian Downie finished 4th, followed by Ken Koscielniak (5th), Lynn Hall (6th), and Dale Albertson (9th). Also leading the team were Bud Lewis and Dave Esser. At the state meet, Downie finished 68th, Koscielniak finished 106th and Hall finished 110th.
1964
Outstanding runners for 1964 were junior Roger Kelly and senior Lynn Hall. At districts, Kelly finished 3rd, followed by Hall, in 8th. Other lettermen included Bill Howland, George Miller, Ken Koscielneiak, and Dave Volgstadt. The team finished 4th at districts. Kelly finished 36th at the state meet and Hall finished 96th.
1965
Led by captain Ken Koscelniak and coach Steve Rasey, the Trojans placed 1st in the District 10 Championship. Outstanding runners included Dave Volgstadt, Steve Kalinowski, Roger Kelly, Dan Jackson, and Bill Matijasic. At the state meet Roger Kelly finished 50th, followed by Kalinowski (66th), Matijasic (67th), Kocelniak (92nd) and Volgstadt (105th).
1966
1967
The most valuable runner was Jon Bannister. Captains were Mike Cesnick and Bill Galbraith. The team had a perfect 12-0 season in meet competition. They won the Lake Shore title over defending champ Cathedral Prep (17-38) and (20-35). In district competition, the Trojans took 1st place with a record low score of 28 points. In the state meet, Jon Bannister captured 12th place (highest ever) honors to lead McDowell to a 4th place finish (highest ever) and earned All-State honors.
1968
The 1968 cross country team had 19 new runners, but still managed a successful season with 9 wins and only 2 losses. The team won the Central Catholic Invitational, took 2nd at Section 1, lost districts to Strong Vincent, and placed 6th at the state meet. The team was led by All-State runner, and captain, Jon Bannister, and captain Jay Pratt, who finished 10th at districts. Bannister finished 12th at the state meet to tie the highest finish ever by a McDowell runner.
1969
1968
The 1968 cross country team had 19 new runners, but still managed a successful season with 9 wins and only 2 losses. The team won the Central Catholic Invitational, took 2nd at Section 1 and Districts to Strong Vincent, and placed 6th at the state meet.
1969
The team finished in 3rd place in the Lake Shore League and Section 1, but rebounded to qualify for states with a 2nd place finish at districts. The team was led by team captains Terry Toomey, Bill Taylor and Dale Anselment.
